COTTONWOOD SHORES —  The Java Bean coffee house at 510 Castle Rock Ave. closed its doors in November, following two other closures of the business during 2008.

The original Java Bean on U.S. 281 in Marble Falls just north of RR 1431 closed just five months earlier. Another branch on Texas 71 in Spicewood shuttered its doors earlier.

The unique tile and stucco building that housed The Java Bean at Castle Rock opened earlier this year in late February. It was designed by “green” architect Marley Porter, the visionary behind the CastleRock development on RR 2147.

Java Bean owner Josh Stivers could not be reached for comment as of press time.

Man's goal: Keeping history alive

BURNET — When "Buddy" Inman drives along U.S. 281, he's thinking about the past.

He wonders about others who have traveled the road and why and how their journeys relate to Texas history.

Inman's interest in history is one reason he joined the Sons of the Republic of Texas, a genealogical organization committed to preserving the history of the state and passing it on to the next generation of Texans.

But speaking in harmony, they all agree The Picayune has chimed in to lend its support, too.
